Released in 1946, this film tells the story of a pilot who survives a situation that should have been fatal, only to discover that his continued existence may be due to an administrative error in the afterlife. As he recovers and forms a deep romantic connection, a celestial authority intervenes, arguing that he was meant to die and must now stand trial to determine whether he can remain among the living. The narrative blends wartime realism with fantasy, creating a unique premise that explores fate, love, and the boundaries between life and death.

The film is especially notable for its striking visual contrast between the vibrant, emotional world of the living and the cold, orderly realm beyond. It combines humour, romance, and philosophical inquiry, culminating in a courtroom-style climax where human experience is weighed against rigid logic. Through its inventive storytelling and emotional depth, it reflects on the power of love as a force strong enough to challenge even the most absolute systems.
